Harold Gaudy - Vineyard Manager
Harold Gaudy brings passion and talent to managing Summerhill’s vineyard holdings. He is after an elusive perfection, taking great pride in the fruit of his labour. Harold has two green hands, and has earned a reputation for developing the best possible fruit. He is insistent that using environmentally sustainable practices contribute to a healthy bottom line and untainted expression of soil and fruit.
Skeptics may question whether his organic and biodynamic initiatives are those of a maverick or a heretic but with his results, it’s a pointless argument. He is a dry-farming, pesticide-hating, French-speaking, ground cover-loving, leaf plucking, convention-shunning, vine whisperer. Gaudy has been nurturing grapes in BC’s Okanagan Valley for more than a decade for wineries big and small. Most notably, he was the former vineyard manager for Cedar Creek's Desert Ridge vineyard in Osoyoos, and managed all vineyard holdings for Le Vieux Pin and LaStella.
More than simply possessing a fascination with vines and grapes, Gaudy delivers skills and abilities where staffing, equipment, zoning and other operational aspects are concerned. Just as comfortable showing cost/benefit to accountants as he is supervising contract growers. Gaudy holds his viticulture certificate from Okanagan University College and builds on it through continuing education and daily research - he is voracious in his consumption of plant facts, big and small. He is an integral part of Summerhill’s team.
