The Summerhill Vineyard comprises over 80 acres of which approximately 50 are planted (20 acres are given over to wetland and nature habitat). Vines grown here in the central part of the valley produce intensely flavoured ripe grapes with mouth watering acidity. This particular terroir is ideally suited to producing sparkling wine cuvee, as well as enchanting aromatic whites, and the elusively difficult heartbreak grape, Pinot Noir. Summerhill purchases additional grapes from small certified organic vineyards in the southern part of the valley, where the climate is even hotter and drier, and where the Bordeaux varieties can be grown with miraculous results. In fact, these European vinifera are flourishing in the northernmost desert viticulture region of the world.
Summerhill is a Certified Organic Vineyard using no herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers in the soil. Glacier rock dust is added to provide trace minerals. Remineralized soils are proving to produce more flavourful and healthier foods wherever they are used. Our Certified Organic Farm status is administered by PACS (Pacific Agriculture Certification Society). We are now in the process of applying for our Demeter Biodynamic certification.
In 2007, we achieved certified organic status in the production cellar, so we can now proudly display the Canadian certified organic logo on our labels, and you can be sure that you are consuming wine that is produced in harmony with nature!
